Q:  Do all operators have to be trained?

A:  According to the WorkSafeBC regulation, any person operating mobile equipment must have received adequate instruction in the safe use of the equipment, has demonstrated to a qualified supervisor or instructor competency in operating the equipment and is familiar with the operating instructions for the equipment. This applies to experienced operators, new or part-time employees and contractors.

Q:  How often to operators require re-training?

A:  Employers shall assess lift truck operators on an ongoing basis.  Operators need to refresh their training knowledge at intervals not exceeding two (2) years by completing a practical evaluation with a competent supervisor or trainer as outlined in CSA B335-94.  Re-training is also required when the operator has been observed to operate the vehicle in an unsafe manner or has been involved in an accident or near-miss incident attributable to operator error.

Q:  What all is included in the course?

A:  Training courses shall be tailored to the individual operator's needs as demonstrated by an evaluation and assessment at intervals not exceeding two (2) years.  Classroom theory and practical training (including instruction, testing and evaluation) sessions take a total of 4-8 hours, depending on the equipment and prior experience of the operator.

Q:  Is Griffith Equipment Training insured?

A:  We carry necessary liability insurance and WorkSafeBC coverage for our trainers.
